Baby J- Week 17

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a spectacular Thursday!
Here's the weekly update!

How far along? 17 weeks, 7 days

Total weight gain: I gained a pound! So I am sitting at -3 lbs.

Baby Bump? Yup.

Maternity clothes? Not yet, but the cold front this week has made it very difficult to get dressed in the morning. I am looking forward to spring skirts and dresses.

Cravings: Birthday cake sounds really amazing- I'm not talking Duncan Hines, I'm talking top of the line birthday cake from a bakery. So does a vanilla milkshake from Milo's. Together, they would make me the happiest girl in the world. Too bad my birthday is not until August.

Symptoms: Same random yuk things. And I am hungry all. the. time

Sleep: Sleeping well!

Movement: Sometimes in the middle of the day, I feel a flutter as I am walking around the classroom or sitting at my table. It could be movement. It could be gas. Your guess is as good as mine. I need to find a book that defines these feelings.

Gender: We find out a week from today. Oh my stars, I can hardly wait.

Belly Button in or out? In

What I miss: Coke. Running up the stairs without getting out of breath.

Best moment this week: Kids Market! We are now the proud new owners of a jogging stroller that we purchased for less than 1/2 the price, a like new swing, and a couple of outfits. It was probably the most stressful thing I have ever experienced. The room had so much stuff you could barely get around. My ticket was only good for me to get in, so I called Brian about 30 times while I was there. He checked recalls, customer reviews, and compared prices. I sent several picture texts of items. If we wouldn't have had cell phones, I would have been completely lost. Why is there SO MUCH stuff!?

Something to talk about...

This afternoon, I went to the post office.
I love the post office in the little town I work in. The people are always nice. The service is always good.

While I was in there, I saw a teacher from my school. We were talking about things going on in her life then talking about Baby J. She asked me if we had a particular feeling about the gender or if the doctor had mentioned what she thought it was. Just as I was beginning to answer her, the woman in front of us in line decided to give HER two cents...

She proceeded to ask me if I was constipated or if I was having heart burn and reflux. When I answered her, she declared to the entire post office that I was having a boy.

So, for anyone who cares, according to the complete stranger at the post office, we are expecting a boy.

If only answering that one question could truly determine the answer.
April 7th is in 1 week and 1 day! Woo hoo!

I go back...

I have a pretty terrible memory. I don't say that as an excuse, it is just kind of a fact. I remember very little of elementary school and really only major events through middle school. High school is much clearer, but I am not one of those people who can name all the teachers I've ever had, or really all the classes I've ever taken.

With all that said, last week I was tired of listening to the same music I always listen to. I just wanted something... different. So I hopped on iTunes and began browsing my music. I slowly began creating a new playlist, but of my old songs, songs that have been a theme in my life in the past or that just hold a certain memory. It is incredible how quickly things in life can come to mind, just by listening to a song. I have spent the past few days reminiscing of old memories. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny, sometimes simply a passing memory, but all part of the work God has done to get me to today. It is incredible to look at events from the past and recognize their significance or insignificance.. I am thankful for the path the Lord has taken me down, no matter how bumpy or misguided, humorous or sad. His plan is perfect and His timing is good. Praise the Lord for being there through every step.

Though I could never post all of the songs from my playlist, either out of embarrassment or lack of space on the post, I am linking a few to YouTube for you to enjoy.

Hannah Montana
(All I can think about is learning the dance in my living room with Rebecca, then teaching it to some friends in the parking lot of the Sea of Galilee in Israel. I also taught the dance to my class last year- those boys were hilarious! Classic.)

Conway Twitty
(My parents and I spent at least half of my childhood listening to Conway Twitty. I know most all of this songs, both appropriate and inappropriate.)

Blackhawk
(I got this CD one year for Christmas, so somehow or another in my head, I have made it a Christmasy song. It's not, but that is the connection I have... weird.)

Relient K
(I used to blast this song in my car on the way home from Auburn because of a bio class I did really badly in. I hadn't listened to it in ages, but somehow, it relates to grad. school too. Funny how that works. I really do think I would prefer arts and crafts.)

Anyone else have any particularly memory enducing songs?

Have a super night my friends!

Baby J- Week 16

Eventually, I will begin posting tummy pictures but at this point I am still a bit self conscious, so enjoy the weekly update instead!

How far along? 16 weeks, 6 days

Total weight gain: I am still sitting at -4 pounds. I am not sure why I didn't gain weight last week since I basically ate all of Savannah. The school nurse and I have talked about it several times and I guess I should just be thankful to be saving a little room for the end!

Baby Bump? Yup. Several teachers have stopped me in the hall this week to point it out.

Maternity clothes? Not actual maternity clothes, but today I pulled out the belly band!

Cravings: This weekend, all I wanted was corn on the cob and mashed potatoes. In honesty, I haven't been craving one particular thing the whole time but something different at different points. I am definitely leaning more toward things that aren't sweet rather than those that are.

Symptoms: Still a bit of a weird appetite, but it is getting better. Also, a couple of random yuk things I won't mention on the blog :(

Sleep: Sleeping well!

Movement: I think a little but I'm still not sure. I wish someone could confirm what I'm feeling!!! Pregnant ladies and new moms, any thoughts?

Gender: We find out April 7th!

Belly Button in or out? In

What I miss: Coke and regular sweet tea.

Best moment this week: Painting the nursery! Brian is putting on a second coat on Saturday! Yay!

Also, Birmingham has a great sale called Kids Market. It is a huge consignment sale and carries so many major baby products. Our budget will be changing drastically soon, so I am interested in getting  some of the short term, and possibly long term, items consignment. People who sell items get to go to the sale early, then general admission is later. The sale opens tomorrow night to the first people to bring items to sell, but I had a ticket to go on Saturday. Today, I got a ticket for tomorrow night! I am so excited because I will have a better variety of options! My goal- a jogging stroller, possibly a crib (questionable...), a swing.... We'll see how it goes.

Have a super Thursday friends!

Sweet Savannah

Sometimes reality is difficult to come back to.

Brian and I just spent 5 glorious nights in Savannah, GA. It was the perfect break from our jobs and our graduate school. We spent our time eating, walking around the city, touring old things, sleeping, watching Grey's Anatomy, and, did I mention, eating?
I haven't weighed yet, but I am thinking those -4 lbs. from my pregnancy may have changed a little bit.

We left Birmingham last Friday after work to head to Atlanta. Our hope was that a break in the driving would make the drive a little easier. We were SO right. We stayed at the Renaissance at the airport, which is practically on the runway. The view from our balcony was so cool. As the daughter of a retired Delta employee, I love Delta and therefore love the Atlanta airport.

Saturday morning we grabbed a quick breakfast at the Dwarf House, which was the first Chick-Fil-A, then made our way to Savannah!

Saturday night was pretty chill. We checked into our hotel then walked around the city. Our hotel room was so classy and nice. And it had a gigantic tub, which did my heart good :)

For dinner Saturday night, we had a delicious pizza dinner at Vinnie Van Go-Go's. The slices of pizza were HUGE! Brian had a slice with pepperoni, sausage, and onion. I had a slice with cheese and spinach. We both thoroughly enjoyed them!

Savannah makes a really big deal out of St. Patrick's Day. As part of their celebration, the Friday before the holiday, they dye every fountain in the city green. Our hotel was at Forsyth Park, so we enjoyed the green fountain by our hotel on the way home.

Sunday morning, we hopped on a trolley to get an official tour of the city. The lady that gave the tour was basically the highlight of our trip. For example, before the bus left, we were talking and told her we were from the Birmingham area. She proceeded to inform us that Coach Propst, the former football coach for Hoover High School, was now coaching in Georgia. I told her that I knew that and that I had actually graduated from Hoover High School. Her response? "Oh my dying Judas, honey, did you really? Were you on that show? Two something?" (Imagine the whole phrase with an extremely southern accent- Savannah southern, like molasses for you Office fans.) With that as her response to my alma mater, you can imagine how animated our tour was. Ha!
Overall it was a great tour. We learned a lot about the city and made notes on places we wanted to go back to. Would it be embarrassing to tell you that at least half of the places were eating places? Maybe, but Savannah has some great food!

After the tour, we took a stroll down the River Walk where we explored the shops and had a quick lunch at The Cotton Exchange. It was such a fun area of town! That afternoon, we spent more time just walking around town. We stopped at an adorable cupcake shop in one of the squares. Brian has a basic chocolate with white icing while I had a M&M cup-cookie. Yum!!

Monday morning, we got up early to put our name on the waiting list for the Lady and Sons- Paula Dean's restaurant! Those people have it down to an art... we got there at 8:00 to put our name on the list for 5:00. Someone in the line near us said that she came at 10:00 once and was told she couldn't eat until 8:00 PM. Obviously a very popular place and definitely one of the things we were most excited about.

After putting our name on the list, we headed over the Tybee Island to enjoy the morning on the beach. It was such a pretty morning, but the water was cold! It was still nice to look out over the Atlantic Ocean and just enjoy being outside.

After the beach, we went to the Crab Shack, a cool restaurant on the bayou with live alligators outside the dining area. We ate overlooking the water, which was so nice. Brian had boiled shrimp and I had BBQ chicken and two very VERY good pieces of corn on the cob.

When we got back to Savannah, we enjoyed one of the oldest cemeteries in the state of Georgia. There were so many cool stones dating all the way back to the 1700's. In addition to the fact it was just an interesting place, there was also important historical significance including it being the burial sight of the Georgia signer of the Declaration of Independence. He happened to also be one of the only signers who died by force rather than naturally.

That night we LOVED Lady and Sons. It was the restaurant I posted on earlier this week. Simply DELICIOUS! There was nothing we ate that we didn't like. Check out this post to see our meal! After dinner, we took a horse and carriage ride around town. This guide gave us a bit more of the history of the city and offered a completely different perspective, including a few ghost stories and lots of sarcastic humor.

Tuesday, Brian and I toured several museums in the area then just relaxed in our room. It was originally supposed to rain that day, so we had made little or no plans... but it ended up being absolutely gorgeous! For lunch, we ate at the Six Pence Pub. This little restaurant/ bar was the sight for filming a scene in the Julie Roberts movie Something to Talk About. It was a really good place for a light meal- we both had sandwiches and their pickles were just delicious! We also tried a local ice cream shop and coffee shop that afternoon. As we were walking around town, we passed a trolley with our tour guide from Sunday- she rang the bell and shouted over the loud system of the open air trolley "Look, there are the kids from Birmingham!" You have to love that women's spunk- and memory!!

Wednesday was our last full day in the city, so we wanted to make it count! We finished touring the museums from the previous day and once again just enjoyed the city. We hit some of the boutiques but didn't find much to buy. Our two purchases of the trip were a Paula Dean cookbook (which was autographed! Hot dog!) and a sock cow for our baby. It's name is Clover, which is highly appropriate considering the whole St. Patrick's Day thing.

Wednesday night, we had our finale meal. We ate at The Olde Pink House, which is a very old converted bank and mansion. Each of the rooms seated guests but was still set up as it's original purpose. The meal was amazing... expensive.... but so very worth it. We shared a BLT salad, which was lettuce topped with applewood bacon and fried green tomatoes. I had filet mignon with a twice baked potato and asparagus. Brian had flounder (which I tried not to recognize as Ariel's best friend, but simply an ocean fish) with collared greens and fancy grits. For dessert, we had a piece of Bailey's cheesecake with shamrock sugar cookies. Um, wow.

Thursday morning, which was St. Patrick's Day, we woke up very early and headed home. By the time we left at 7:00 am, traffic was already heavy and a lot of roads were closed for the parade. I hate we missed the festivities, but it was nice to get home at a decent hour.

Such a wonderful and relaxing trip. If you get a chance to head to Savannah, you shouldn't miss it. It's a beautiful town with so much history and great food!

Have a blessed weekend my friends!

Friday Favorites

As I was browsing through blog posts this morning, I came upon a fun blog hop called Friday Favorites at A Love Worth Waiting For. This week, Lyndsie is focusing on our favorite blogs!

My favorite part about blogging is the fact that I have the opportunity to get to know amazing and Godly women from around the country. Though we may never meet, I love seeing insight and experience, learn of new projects and ideas, and simply "get to know" these women. It is so much fun!

One of the first blogs I found as I started blogging was Brittney's at Far More Than Rubies. She features encouraging posts about the Lord, about books, and more recently about her baby, which is due very soon! I love reading her insights and enjoying her humor!

Another blog I began following when I first started blogging was Kathryn's at And Baby Makes Three. I love the fact that I found her just before Madelyn was born, so it feels like I know her and her sweet little girl! She loves Jesus and loves her family! She is an incredible role model and a great picture of what I hope to be, both now and when Baby J is born. Recently, she started posting about her homerun business, the Bitterberry Boutique. She makes incredible and adorable clothing and hair bows as well as super cute scrapbooks that just require pictures! Check out her blog and her Facebook store!

Finally, I really enjoy following Beth at Design A-Peele. Beth features lots of great posts on updates for her house. Her style is clean, colorful, and classy! I have gotten so much inspiration from her ideas and simply enjoy browsing her blog! She and her husband Matt recently adopted a precious little boy. It was so encouraging to hear their story as they went through the adoption process. God is so good!

Though those are my "favorites" there are so many fabulous blogs, it is hard to narrow it down! I can't wait to read about the blogs everyone else enjoys!

Have a fabulous day!!

Baby J- Week 15

I have really been looking forward to my weekly baby updates, but have been trying to wait until 15 weeks to begin! I wasn't really sure where to start, so I am using the same format as Brittney at Far More Than Rubies. Brittney, I hope that's okay!!

So without further ado, here is my 15 week update!

How far along? 15 weeks, 3 days

Total weight gain: I lost 4 pounds between the first and second doctor's appointment and I haven't gained anything since, so I am sitting at -4 lbs.

Baby Bump? A little one, but only Brian and I can really tell.

Maternity clothes? Not yet- I have a pair of jeans ready though! My sweet husband brought them to me one night as a happy day surprise.

Cravings: I am not really craving anything particular, but I have a pretty low tolerance for super sweet things. For example, today I went to a cute cupcake place and only ate 3/4 a cupcake. Crazy. And totally not me.

Symptoms: Weird appetite- it's been really difficult to eat a full meal.

Sleep: I am sleeping through the night, but am getting a little worried about my stomach sleep. I really need to invest in a body pillow.

Movement: Not yet. Earlier this week I felt a few flutters in my lower stomach, but I am not really sure if that was anything. I think it might have been wishful thinking.

Gender: We find out at our next doctor's appointment!!! I can't wait!

Belly Button in or out? In

What I miss: Not feeling guilty about sleeping on my stomach. And I turned down fish and chips today because I wasn't sure about the fish situation. I only like catfish and cod, so turning it down made me kind of sad!

Best moment this week: Seeing our sweet baby on the ultrasound machine. It had the most precious profile, adorable hands and feet, and the hiccups! It's funny seeing him/her hopping inside of me.

Brian and I had hoped to get a car yesterday, but were sadly let down by the dealership, so the search is still on. Somewhere, there is a Highlander with our name on it!

Finally, it's Spring Break!!! I have been in desperate need of a break for quite awhile, so I am looking forward to a nice and relaxing week! More on that to come!!

My husband's a running fool!

This morning, my friend Ashley and I went to cheer our husbands on as they ran a 5k. Brian has been training for about 7 weeks and has really become a great runner!

Here are some pictures from the morning!
Here are the guys before the race- On the left is Jared's friend Okor, then Brian and Jared

The start of the race!

Jared and Okor finishing the race

Brian right before he crossed the finish line

And as he crosses the finish line

Like my shirt? Ashley and I had them in support of our running husbands :)

Ashley and I sporting our supportive T's!

After the race, we went to The Original Pancake House for breakfast. I got Three Little Piggys in a Blanket, which was sausage rolled up in pancakes. It was absolutely.amazing.  So delicious!

After the race and breakfast, I was exhausted (ha and I didn't even run!) so I came home and took a nap with my sweet cat. You have got to love a good cat nap!!

Have a fabulous weekend my friends!

A perk of pregnancy

I went to the dentist last Wednesday and had yucky gums. It kind of stunk. (TMI, I know)
Apparently it is a symptom of pregnancy.

The joy came when my dentist said I needed an electric toothbrush because it was better for my gums.
*YAY!*

I have wanted a rotary toothbrush basically all my life, but have never had a reason to buy one.
But what can I say? The dentist said I NEEDED one.

As of last night, I am a proud owner of an electric toothbrush! They really leave your teeth feeling clean! And it does my heart good to know it is totally benefiting my gums.

Woo hoo! Tomorrow's Friday! Have a great night!

Read Across America

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!

This is one of my favorite weeks of the whole school year!
So far, I have read 15 Dr. Seuss books to my class, including his biography, The Boy On Fairfield Street. We have several more to go- I can't wait!!

Here are some random facts about the birthday boy--

His first book was And to Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street. It was rejected 27 times before it was finally published.

He attended Dartmouth College where he was voted Least Likely to Succeed by his peers.

He began his doctorate at Oxford but dropped out to focus on writing and illustrating.

His real name is Theodore Geisel. He goes by the pen name Dr. Seuss (duh, I know.) Seuss was his mother's maiden name and the Dr. part was a label he put on himself. Occasionally he goes the pen name Theo. Lesieg, which is Geisel backwards. He used this name when he wrote, but didn't illustrate a book.

His dad was a zoo keeper, hince the book If I Ran the Zoo.

Dr. Seuss won the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for outstanding contributions to children's literature.
